New Community Paradigms Wiki update for Community Financing

The next update to the New Community Paradigms Wiki is on Community Financing which is considered a wiki bridge between Economics and Governance.

Chicago Community Loan Fund (CCLF) was originally conceived as a bridge between people who wanted to put their money to work "in their own backyard" and nonprofit organizations that serve low-wealth families and communities who need those dollars most. The mission of the Chicago Community Loan Fund is to provide flexible, affordable and responsible financing and technical assistance for community stabilization and development efforts and initiatives that benefit low- to moderate-income neighborhoods, families and individuals throughout metropolitan Chicago.

Grassroots Grantmakers is a network of place-based funders in the United States and Canada who are working from a “we begin with residents” perspective – supporting active citizenship and building civic capacity at the block level in their communities with scale-appropriate grants, a highly relational style of grantmaking, and a learning orientation. Funders in our network are working to strengthen resident-controlled associations, and help people that come together because of a shared interest in improving their block, their neighborhood, or their community to be a stronger voice for change and community vitality.

New Community Paradigm Wiki Updates - Economics

This New Community Paradigm Wiki update, based on the newly initiated procedure, is on the Economics wiki section.

The way we work is changing forever. A host of technologies—from automation to digital platforms for coordination of tasks—are reinventing not just what people do to earn a living but at a much deeper level how we organize to create value. The landscape of labor economics is in upheaval. Solutions won’t come from any one agency, discipline, or company. It will take collaboration, broad public engagement, smart policy, and an openness to reinventing old economic models. The IFTF Workable Futures Initiative is a call-to-action for policymakers, platform developers, corporate strategists, activists, and of course other workers of all kinds, to join us in blueprinting these positive platforms for the future of work. The time is now to grapple with the challenges ahead, develop sustainable solutions, and create a future of work that is workable for everyone.

Economic Indicators is designed to help gauge California's current economic health and performance. Using public data, and with the oversight over our Research Advisory Council, we assembled a database of key economic indicators that are useful for understanding current and future economic conditions.

Californians know that the time to fix our state's economy is now. People from every region are standing up and demanding change. We must create real and intelligent remedies that will attract capital, generate jobs and encourage sustainable communities all over California.

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA STEWARDSHIP NETWORKIn 2008, the Morgan Family Foundation launched the California Stewardship Network as a civic venture, investing $ 1.5 million over 2 years in matching grants to 10 economic regions that agreed to focus on breakthroughs led by stewardship teams composed of business, community and government civic entrepreneurs. While each regional team has developed its own stewardship strategy, all share a common approach. Typically, these strategies are:(1) Data-driven, (2) Based on economic regions and industry clusters, (3) Successful in sustaining the engagement of business, (4) Effective at integrating economic, social, and environmental considerations, and (5) Innovative in their approach to public-private partnerships in implementation. The teams represent the diversity of California ranging from San Diego and Los Angeles in the South to Sacramento Valley, the Fresno Region and the Central Coast to the Sierra Region, Sonoma and Butte Counties and the Redwood Coast near the Oregon Border. These regional groups meet on regular basis and exchange best practices.

NEF (the new economics foundation) is an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being. We aim to improve the quality of life by promoting innovative solutions that challenge mainstream thinking on economic, environment and social issues. We work in partnership and put people and the planet first.
NEF was founded in 1986 by the leaders of The Other Economic Summit (TOES) which forced issues such as international debt onto the agenda of the G7 and G8 summits.

We are unique in combining rigorous analysis and policy debate with practical solutions on the ground, often run and designed with the help of local people. We also create new ways of measuring progress towards increased well-being and environmental sustainability.

Shared value is a management strategy in which companies find business opportunities in social problems. While philanthropy and CSR focus efforts focus on “giving back” or minimizing the harm business has on society, shared value focuses company leaders on maximizing the competitive value of solving social problems in new customers and markets, cost savings, talent retention, and more.

Fresh Updates to New Community Paradigms Community Ecology wiki-pages

This blog was originally designed as a collection platform for newly discovered resources for the New Community Paradigms wiki and material for the New Community Paradigms blog. It automatically collects these resources from the New Community Paradigms Diigo Group account.

Because the collection was automatic, this blog was largely left on cruise control with the intention that the wiki would be updated on a regular basis and that a New Community Paradigms blog post would be created to memorialize the update. That has not happened for awhile. When it does happen, it seemed to interrupt the flow of ideas being considered by the primary New Community Paradigms blog.

There is also now a New Community Paradigms Map to reflect the relationship between different sections and their components of the wiki.

So it has been decided to start putting the updates of the wiki through this blog starting with updates to Community Ecology.  The resources listed below have usually been provided before. The only difference is that there is now more context. The different wiki pages are listed first and the particular resources are listed below. The wiki pages will be used as labels for each particular blog post for hopefully easier searching.

Diigo Update 06/12/2017

  • Together We Will: Provide resources and guidance to empower everyday people to organize and act locally; whether new to community organization, returning to a new era of civil rights defense, or seasoned veteran of political and social activism, we will curate and produce resources to serve their needs. Work to elect progressive government leaders in local, county, state, and national races who will defend our values and rights, with an emphasis on identifying and providing resources to prospective candidates of color, female, diverse in abilities, and from the LGBTQ community. Radically include underrepresented groups in our leadership and membership, at all levels of our organization to explicitly combat systemic racism and build institutional equity. Partner with organizations who do the above successfully and amplify their actions to give voice to the millions who have been silent for far too long.
